I ask that question because I am really concerned at the route our country is taking. How can we have a democracy when those that ‘we the people’ vote to represent us, DON’T? What has happened in our congress just since the first of the year is scary, for want of a better word. Not one jobs bill and the same old tired ‘Ryan budget’ just on steroids and at the same time, they quietly voted to let the ‘congress insider trading bill’ expire and at the same time Speaker Boehner and the GOP are conspiring to find a way to allow the ‘keystone pipeline’(Boehner has 6 investments in the pipeline) without the President. They have passed their CISPA bill and the GOP in the senate were successful in stopping all gun control measures.
All of these issues are what 90% of Americans want to happen and still those in government office refuse to abide by the peoples will. That is one of the first steps of fascism, as are all the restrictive women’s healthcare decisions and the refusal to pass the paycheck fairness act for women. They are insistent on ‘securing’ our border and refuse to have any gun laws. They want to rig the voting and make it hard for those that won’t vote for them, to vote at all. We have a state (north Carolina) that wants to declare they are a ‘Christian’ state and other states that have taken over city management(Michigan) and even though the people voted against this ‘act’, after elections were over they waited less than a week and ‘voted’ this into law with a provision that makes it impossible to remove’ None of these acts are democratic.
I wish so much I had answers on how to combat this outright takeover of our country by corporations that would turn our country into a ‘fascist led dictatorship’ The one thing I do know is that ‘shining the light’ onto these actions does make it harder for them to succeed in their mission to own our government and the country. http://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/fasci14chars.html This link will take you to the 14 tenets of fascism Its quite illuminating.

Wrong, as austerity cuts only add to the deficit/debt and contribute to high unemployment, erosion of safety net programs and the rich get richer. That last one is the reason we have the call for austerity cuts on a global scope. What is interesting to note, is that in the end, the rich suffer and lose in a big way. There will be though a very few (the ones we never hear about) that will walk away owning whole governments.
Ironic is to read where now Germany is feeling the pinch from the surrounding countries that they imposed austerity cuts, since now those same countries no longer have the money needed to buy what Germany exports. In fact in all cases, such as Portugal, where the government says on one hand, that since austerity cuts were implemented, there revenue has gone way down and it has added to the debt/deficit, they now say that what is needed is even greater austerity cuts and that will do the ‘trick’. Not sure about you, but that doesn’t exactly make sense, does it? Our own country is no better. Our president is set to repeat the mistake of 1936 when FDR and his GOP congress implemented austerity cuts and it sent us back into a deep depression. World war 2 came along and we got back out of what should not have happened. We don’t need a 3rd world war and we really don’t need to repeat the mistakes of 1936.
The other day I was reading a news article that said our country was imploring Europe not to continue with further austerity cuts, as then they don’t have the money to buy our ‘exports’. At the same time, our own government is set to throw our economy to the curb and implement austerity cuts designed to shrink our economy and at the same time leave the people (the true job-creators are you and I with money to spend) with no money to spend on what is offered for sale That then starts the domino effect of more job lay-offs and less revenue for the government and leaves us with a higher deficit/debt problem than before.
Why then is our government and the global market so eager to implement austerity cuts? It doesn’t help the people or the government in anyway, but it does allow the ‘global elite and global mega corporations’ to drain the global economies and governments dry and leave behind global depression and a slave population to further their economic gains.
Trouble is as history proves, eventually the very rich (except for those very few)lose everything and many times their lives (think the wall street suicides in 1929 or the French revolution when the rich literally lost their heads) and yet they will still proceed with their plans to destroy not only our country but the worlds economy.
Sometimes it feels like that in the present time. PEACE
The greatest lie of all and sold so well by the corporate owned propaganda machine, is that Social Security is part of the debt, deficit or budget. It is not by law part of any of those three as it is funded totally by the taxes for Social Security. In fact as it stands it has a surplus and even without added revenue( the tax moratorium that recently stopped- made the revenue lower and the unemployment from being so high also meant less revenue) which will also get larger with fuller employment, is good until 2036 and at that time still capable with no added revenue to pay 75%. All that is needed to avoid that is to eliminate the payroll ceiling.
As we pay taxes for the greater good, that does not mean that those that have high retirement income would be eligible for benefits, but would be eligible for Medicare with means tested premiums. As to Medicare all that is needed is to allow for total negotiation of drug prices and medical devices and facility’s
Yet the corporate owned media, the GOP and now the president will tell you that we have to cut these ‘entitlement’ programs before they break the country. Funny thing to note is that entitlement means that you earned those benefits, and yet somehow the propaganda machine has people thinking that entitlement is a bad thing, like it was ‘charity’ for the poor. Its not and all should know that, since with your first check to your last you pay for both those programs. There is enough money to cover everyone and with those ‘minor’ tweaks will work for generations to come.
I keep wondering when all Americans will wake up and see through the propaganda and unite together to reclaim our government from corporate interests. When people whose options I favored, say the same rhetoric we now hear from the president, and not just the pretenders of democracy – the GOP-I am truly afraid for our country.
REPEAT AFTER ME THERE IS A SURPLUS IN THE SOCIAL SECURITY TRUST FUND THE COST OF LIVING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GOVERNMENTS BUDGET, DEFICIT OR DEBT AND MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY CAN EASILY BE MADE LONG TERM SUSTAINABLE. THE ONLY PART OF MEDICARE THAT HAS REALLY IMPACTED THE RISING COSTS ARE THE ‘AMENDMENTS THAT PROHIBIT ANY NEGOTIATION WITH DRUG PRICES, MEDICAL DEVICES AND FACILITYS.
As always, thank you for the time it took to read this. Its so important that all people become aware of the true facts and unite together to stop this destruction of the one real protection that we the masses really have.
MAY JOY PEACE HOPE AND HARMONY SURROUND YOU IN LOVE
What does the common good mean to you? For myself, it’s the reason we establish democracies with taxes to provide for the common good of all. Sadly, that doesn’t seem to be the thoughts of too many in our country. We have the ‘top elite’ and large corporations paying next to nothing in taxes, which in turn fuels the inequality of wealth and at the same time leads to a country unable to repair its infrastructure, slipping education and poverty at record levels not seen since the great depression.
How then do we get the mindset of our country to change? How do we get people to see that what we have now is more a corporacy than a democracy, and that until we learn to band together as a ‘team’ and work for the ‘common good’, we will continue our spiral down into a ‘banana republic’ or a fascist corporate owned government.
That still leaves my first question, what does ‘common good’ mean to you?
As always peace and may joy and harmony and love surround you. Thank you for the time you took to read this.
