WHY WE NEED MANDATORY VOTING

Before you start complaining about our freedom and blah blah ….. let me list the reasons why.

1st reason  it would help our failing democracy by getting people to vote

2nd reason  it would stop the obstructions and restrictions that so many states have put forth

3rd reason it would force politicians to actually run on the issues, knowing that everyone would be forced to vote

4th reason it would stop all the talk about voter fraud

Of course fox news and the GOP (gods of poverty guarding old plutocrats) would be very against this as they are very afraid of all the people voting. They would have the tea party fools out in force braying about how their freedoms are being assaulted if they are made to vote and all the republicans in congress would be apoplectic about the possibility of everyone voting, no matter their race or how poor they are. We should at the same time vote by mail and/or computer and for those that are homeless then the library would be available.

What this would mean is that everyone once they are 18 would be issued a voters card and your address would determine the district you are in. Imagine is there were no lines to vote and no onerous restrictions on voting? We should have close to 100% voting then and at the same time we should see a difference in our government. We the people are the government and its time we acted like that. I am not advocating for penalties or fines, just a way to keep politicians from trying to obstruct people from voting. This is the only way to accomplish that.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to feedback. Peace

OUR NEWS IS A JOKE

I had been telling my oldest daughter for quite awhile that our mainstream news is not really news anymore. Last night when I went to say I was going to bed early, she had on CNN. They were discussing the Dugger realty show and the latest on Josh Dugger. Not exactly what you would expect from a news station in the past.

Then they had a 35 year recap of their station and that is when even my daughter was able to see what our news used to be like.Since she is just shy a month of 40, she had not really seen what news used to be like. I have to admit that I also had forgotten what it used to be like when you turned CNN on. The difference was amazing – the hard hitting investigating and then reporting on what they found – they showed actual footage of war zones- they actually went to the story and didn’t just look pretty and funny on the set- as the years went by, it became more about the ratings and less about ferreting out the real news.

So, I decided to see who owns CNN – Ted Turner started CNN in 1980 as the first 24 hour new network. Time Warner then purchased Turner Broadcasting in 1996. AOL merged with Time Warner in 2000, which didn’t last. As it stands now it appears that Charter and Time Warner want to merge-it hasn’t happened yet. It’s interesting to note that when Time Warner bought out Turner Broadcasting in 1996 is also when Fox news started. That is also when the news stopped being the news and became what it is today- more of a reality show that no longer goes after the real story and instead has news that is about what is happening with the Duggers and Bruce Jenner- of course occasionally they give some real reporting, but like Fox news they, also pedal in untruths and outright lies like the no-go zones that they were caught up in.

If I want to gather real information on what is going on in our world, so far I will go with Aljazeera, sometimes BBC world and online searches and out of country news stations.

Sadly, way too many people are unaware that our news broadcasting and our printed and online news is owned by 5 mega giant corporations and that what they feed as news is anything but that. In our country there is no law requiring our news to be truthful, factual and non biased and instead as Fox news proved in 2003- it’s perfectly legal to force your reporters to lie as its ‘broadcast news’. Maybe it would be a good thing to petition to have our  country declare that its illegal to peddle untruths and propaganda, but its doubtful that will happen anytime soon.

So, in conclusion our news is a joke

BECAUSE ITS DEPRESSING

I am up at my oldest daughters home for the next month helping with her 3 month old while she finishes up the school year. She is a school nurse and her maternity leave is up before the school year ends. Thankfully I am able to come up and spend the next month taking care of little Violet.

So this morning while drinking coffee and going through my emails ( usually get anywhere from 100 to 200 a day) I was commenting on the different issues that were presented. Bless her heart she did listen for quite awhile and then she held her hand up and said- please mom, it’s just too depressing to listen to. Therein lies the biggest problem facing our country how to get the masses interested in the current events and important issues.

Our media shoulders the blame for the way that most people think in our country and people are bombarded with Bruce Jenner and his transgender identity crisis and the dugger clan and anything but the real issues. Although I don’t listen to mainstream media, I do subscribe to many sources that send me updates on what is happening on the mainstream media so as to be aware of why people think the way we do in our country. My daughter had CNN on and Senator Sanders was talking about our higher education crisis and how important it is to have free education for all. My daughters reaction was sadly similar to most in our country and she said how could we possibly afford that and after all she is still paying on her school debt- so why should those going now get off without that debt?

Trying to explain that it would actually save our country money and result in a better educated workforce didn’t fly. In fact her first response was great what is this man saying now and not one of real interest but rather one of derision.  There were other subjects brought up before she said no more.

So this is the reality in our country-  it’s too depressing to discuss the real issues and can we go back to talking about anything but the reality of what is wrong in our country. If my children who were brought up to question and to think, what then must those who were not taught that , think? My real question is- how do we get Americans to wake up and want to know what the issues are and how to react with more than it’s so depressing, please change the subject?

Hopefully your long weekend is spent with family and friends and is peaceful.
